Widespread Panic 2011/10/02 MCC, Biloxi MS

Panic ended their big weekend with a throwdown on the coast worthy of the "never miss a Sunday show" praise. The Yonder boys set the tone with a great opening set including a nice "Southbound" and a raucous cover of The Dead's "Althea". Once Panic hit the stage, the crowd was nice and loose and they launched into it with no looking back. "C Brown" and "WDYBT?" feature Dave and Jeff from Yonder respectively (definite first set highlight) and the closing monster of "Bears -> Protein -> Sewing" absolutely had the hippies running for the hallways. The second set was pure Panic, letting loose a string of greatest hits in a non-stop blast of party music that had the arena spinning on its side. I thought the upper level might come down during that "Diner" peak. Go Panic.

The Radiators - 2011/01/21 Tipitina's, New Orleans LA

The Radiators kicked off Tip's 33rd Anniversary with a run of shows back in January, commemorating not only the venue's years here on earth but also their own. One of my favorite Rads experiences hands down, by the end of the show I was in full-on noodle mode in the back corner of the balcony. The end of set one is everything you could want out of the Radiators. FISHHEAD MUSIC!

One thing is for sure, I want to party like Rads fans when I get older...

New Grass Country Club - Join The Club

Freshman release from New Orleans' folk-rock/bluegrass outfit New Grass Country Club, which highlights their songwriting and down south flatpickin' style.
Good stuff.

Widespread Panic 2001/05/04 Municipal Auditorium, New Orleans LA

For this years annual August 10th Panic tribute, we bring you one of our favorites - the barn burner from New Orleans 2001. From the Longhair opener to the Blackout send-off, these sets embody the punishing intensity that Widespread Panic was during the peak of Houser's tenure. For the second set, the band brings a few friends along (Warren Haynes, Chuck Leavell, Cecil Daniels...), but the light that shines here is absolutely from Mikey.
Long Live Panic.

Phil & Friends: 2001/04/20 Cricket Arena, Charlotte NC

Lineup:
Phil Lesh - Bass / Vocals
Warren Haynes - Guitar / Vocals
Jimmy Herring - Guitar
Rob Barraco - Keyboards / Vocals
John Molo - Drums

A crisp SBD from the great Phil and Friends 2001 Spring Tour - first set has a blistering "Wharf Rat -> Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad" and the second is anchored down by a huge "Dark Star", as well as a great "Help/Slipknot!/Franklin's". Besides the '99 Phriends Run, this is my favorite incarnation of the Phil thing. Definitely a hazy evening in the Queen City.

The Superjam: 2011/05/06 The House of Blues Parish Room, New Orleans LA

"Why Can't We Be Friends?"

Benevento. Porter. Deitch. Stoltz.
This was the gig where it all came together. You can almost hear the stained glass walls of the Parish Room bending from the pulsing improv that blazed from the amp stacks on this Friday night in the Crescent City. All we could do when it was all said and done was spill out into the French Quarter and try to catch our breaths.

One of my absolute favorite shows of the year, and for those that were in the house that night - a look back at the madness that left so many shell-shocked on Decatur St.
This is what Jazz Fest is all about.

Anders Osborne & Friends: 2011/02/26 Tipitina's Uptown, New Orleans LA

A fiery Friday evening that somehow careens itself from "American Patchwork" sonic rock & roll to a full-on Carnival celebration. The baddest Swede in Orleans Parish and his signature Fender were rock solid all night, and with the talent he had backing him on stage it would have been a damn tragedy had they not nailed it.
"Burnin' On The Inside" is why we have been clamoring about this guy for a while now.
