Railroad Earth: 2008/09/19 The Fox Theatre, Boulder CO

An absurdly good show from start to finish, the first half features Dominik Lalli of Big Gigantic on Sax as well as harmonizing back-up vocals from Boulder's own Black Swan Singers. The second set is a full-on Railroad Earth get down.
I want a warhead of my own!

The String Cheese Incident: Red Rocks

It was a triumphant return to the stage for the Cheese gang and their fans this past weekend in Colorado, with 3 nights of music that saw each performance get better as the days went on. Highlights include the first evenings "Shine", the old school Set 1 on Saturday (and the perfect Police cover), and Sunday's "Little Hands > Dudley's" and the BIG "Lands End > Glory Chords".

Idaho For Panic

All the way on the other side of the land of the free, Panic was quietly celebrating our nations independence with two under the radar shows in Idaho. The Botanical Garden sits right on the site of Boise's old state prison, and you can see a nice theme develop out of that. Then in typical Panic fashion the "Lawyers" drops the next night.
Go Panic.

II: Backwards Down The Number Line, Halley's Comet > Light > Fluffhead, Have Mercy, Light Up Or Leave Me Alone > Free, Wading In The Velvet Sea, The Squirming Coil > Suzy Greenberg

E: Boogie On Reggae Woman

From the first notes of "Llama", it should have been very apparent how phishy the 4th of July weekend shows would be. The bands return to the southland reinforced just how ambidextrious the boys still are, with Raleigh's highlights moving around from the ridiculous "Light Up Or Leave Me Alone > Free" in the second set to the dance funk encore of Stevie's "Boogie On Reggae Woman".
Don't sleep on the "Jim > Moma" either.

II: Drowned > 46 Days > Twenty Years Later > The Lizards, Carini > Fuck Your Face > 2001 > You Enjoy Myself

E: A Day In The Life

Charlotte got right back into it with the years only "Buried Alive" - then Phish proceeded to nail down a fantastic set 1 before taking the Verizon Wireless Center to outer-space with set 2's "Carini > Fuck Your Face > 2001 > YEM". First FYF since '87 - and we got a Lizards taboot.

II: Rock and Roll > Prince Caspian, Tweezer > Slave To The Traffic Light, Bouncing Around The Room, Possum, Backwards Down The Number Line > Harry Hood, Loving Cup

E: Sleeping Monkey, Tweezer Reprise

It doesn't get much better than that first set. Strong contender for best "Gin" of the 3.0 era, the return of McGrupp and a "Sanity > Antelope" set closer. As far as the set 2 goes, it's all about the "Tweezer > Slave".
